Tommy Wiseau, the director of the worst movie ever, strikes again in the trailer for ‘Big Shark’

“Oh hi shark!” Tommy Wiseau has a new movie after the phenomenon of ‘The Room’

Tommy Wiseau, the director/producer/screenwriter/star of what for many is the worst film in the history of cinema, ‘The Room’, threatens to release a new work 20 years after his “masterpiece”. And it looks like he’s serious, because he just released the trailer for ‘Big Shark’, the story of three New Orleans firefighters facing off against a giant shark.

If you don’t know Tommy Wiseau, on one hand I envy you. But then again, you missed out on one of the funniest movie experiences ever, albeit for all the wrong reasons. ‘The Room’, the film that he built from scratch in 2003 with money of dubious origin that has caused countless theories on the Internet (we are still looking forward to the premiere of ‘Room Full of Spoons’, the documentary about his figure that the filmmaker himself has blocked based on lawsuits), is a wonderful concatenation of moments and absurd interpretations that perfectly define the concept of “embarrassment”.

In the 20 years that have passed since it was released in 2003, word of mouth has turned ‘The Room’ into a cult phenomenon with constant shows in theaters and festivals around the world in the style of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’, with interactive games in which the public “participates” collectively in the projection. The popularity of the film was such that it caused James Franco to direct and star in a film in 2017 (‘The Disaster Artist’, Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Festival) parodying its filming. And now, two decades later, Tommy Wiseau is back as director, screenwriter and actor of a new film that promises to be even worse than his previous work.

Although Greg Sestero does not appear in the new ‘Big Shark’ trailer, the co-star of ‘The Room’ (who once again shared the cast with Wiseau in ‘Best F(r)iends’, screened in Spain at CutreCon) was announced as one of the actors in the film, so the advance may be keeping the surprise of the mythical reunion for those attending the various screenings that are already scheduled.

Wiseau plans to make an 8-month tour of the United States showing the film in person before globally releasing the film on VOD. Will it ever come to Spain?
