Bolsonaro defense delivers Arab jewels to Brasilia

The jewels were delivered to the Caixa Econômica Federal, after the determination of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU)

The lawyer Paulo Amador da Cunha Bueno, who represents former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), delivered, this Friday 24, the jewels donated by the Saudi authorities to a Brazilian entourage and which remained with the politician. The delivery was made to a federal agency Caixa Econômica, located in Asa Sul, in the central region of Brasilia. The information comes from Stadium.

The jewel box entered the country illegally with the entourage of the Bolsonaro government in October 2021, without being declared to the Federal Revenue Agency.

The handover comes after the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) ruled that Bolsonaro handed over to Caixa, within a period of five working days, the jewels sent to him from Saudi Arabia. In addition, the agency has ordered that the former president hand over the weapons he received as a gift during a visit to the United Arab Emirates to the Federal Police.

The TCU, which serves as an external oversight tool for the federal government and helps the national Congress monitor Brazil’s budgetary and financial execution, also ruled that Saudi jewelry held by the Federal Revenue Agency should also be brought to Caixa, “in consideration of the indisputable nature of a public good of high value, not susceptible to being incorporated into a private collection”.

A newspaper article Folha de São Paulo revealed the existence of a receipt proving that the Saudi gift had entered Bolsonaro’s personal collection in November 2022. The package, which reached its final destination, contained a case with a watch, a pen, cufflinks, a ring and a sort of rosary.

The objects are from the Swiss luxury brand Chopard, the same jewels that would have been given to Michelle Bolsonaro by the Saudis, and which were retained by the Revenue Agency when they landed in Brazil.
