Our superheroes need to eat too! Exhausted after battling Penguin, Poison Ivy, and the Joker, what’s the one dish that makes the Gotham Knight happy?
The information is disclosed in Batman n°701, published September 2010 and signed by Grant Morrison and Tony Daniels. This and the next volume tied together the events of Batman RIP and Final Crisis, both overseen by Morrison.
We see Bruce Wayne survive the crash of Dr. Simon Hart’s helicopter and return to the family mansion. He then meets Alfred, who reveals to him that he has made “his favorite dish”: Mulligan’s Soup.
Batman #701
Mulligatawny is a Tamil term, a contraction of “milagu” (pepper) and “thanni” (water). Their connection is translated as “salt water”. Mulligatawny soup is a complete meal made with chicken broth, potatoes, curry and coconut milk, among other things. There are many variations of this Indian dish, but Alfred took the time to share his recipe with readers!
As a bonus, know that one of Superman’s favorite meals in the comics is beef bourguignon with ketchup and mayo pretzels. Oh yes!
