The “Rota Rio Imperial” project, launched under the patronage of the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the Secretariat of State for Culture and the Creative Economy of Rio de Janeiro, through the Public Notice Retomada Cultural 2, on the occasion of the 200 Years of Independence, invites cariocas and tourists to explore Rio de Janeiro, through a tourist itinerary with numerous cultural and natural attractions scattered in the mountainous region, Vale do Café, Medio Paraíba region, Costa Verde, coastal Baixadas, North Fluminense and Northwest Fluminense.

The script, which is free and can be downloaded from project websitereveals historical and cultural attractions, such as palaces, museums, cultural centers, farms, alembics, churches, parks, amazing landscapes, peaceful and hospitable cities, welcoming hotels and restaurants serving the best of Rio de Janeiro’s typical cuisine, including favorite dishes of members of the Brazilian imperial family.

In addition to the itinerary, Rota Rio Imperial offers a free online seminar at the Youtubedelivered by Priscila Monteiro (professor, historian and founder of RIOHCTUR), addressing the importance of cultural-historical tourism, various historical facts about Rio de Janeiro’s attractions, as well as tips to empower the work of tourism professionals/companies.

Conceived by journalists Bárbara Rocha and Júlia Moreira, and publicist Vagner Alcantelado, after having carried out similar projects in other parts of the world, the objective of the project is to contribute to the generation of economic, social and environmental value in the regions, to enhance the history of State of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, in order to influence residents of different social classes to know it, understand its importance for their cultural background, identity, customs and preserve it, as well as advertise carioca destinations still little explored by tourism.
