It’s been “only” five years since The X-Files ended, but Fox doesn’t seem willing to give up the rights to its iconic series. Its creator Chris Carter confirmed in a podcast that a reboot was indeed in the works.
For a while, it was to take the form of an animated comedy series called The X-Files: Albuquerque, which focused on a team of secondary agents.
But today we learn that Fox is working on a completely different project. Always at the microphoneOn the beach with Gloria Makarenkorevealed the showrunner, “I just talked to a young guy…Ryan Coogler…he’s going to be working on a version of The X-Files with a different cast. He had his work cut out for us because we had covered a lot of ground.”
Ryan Coogler is not his first attempt in Hollywood, since we owe him the blockbusters Black Panther and Creed. A director committed to the cause of blacks in the United States, he also made the hilarious film Fruitvale Station about the true story of Oscar Grant, a young African-American who was killed by a policeman.
If the news pans out, it would be Coogler’s first foray into the realm of small screen and fantasy. Launched in 1993, The X-Files became one of the most popular series of the 1990s. It follows the investigation of two FBI agents – Mulder and Scully – who are responsible for solving very strange cases.
This new project could be the return of two of its main actors – David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson for cameos. If the former has never hidden her desire to get back into Mulder’s costume, Gillian Anderson has repeatedly stated that she no longer wants to be at Scully’s camp:
“I will never play The X-Files again. This is a question that comes up all the time. But I don’t know why they ask me that because I feel like I’m in the same position as bands that have been playing for 30 years and keep asking to play their hits. Yesterday, when they wanted us to love. their new compositions. I repeat, this will not happen.(April 2022)
It will take patience to see if this project will actually see the light of day.
