To the shock of fans, Bill Skarsgard, famous actor Pennywise, from the horror franchise ‘It: The Thing’, will not be the clown of ‘Welcome To Derry’, a prequel being developed by HBO Max. The actor has revealed his absence during a interview recently at Jake’s Takes.
“Let’s see what they come up with and what they do with it. At the moment, I’m not involved in the series. And if anyone else is doing it, my advice would just be: do it your way, do it your way, have fun, you know what I mean?Skarsgard said.
HBO Max announced the production of ‘Welcome To Derry’ in March of last year. Considering that the prequel content always refers to events prior to the original work, the production will be set in the 1960s, in the period leading up to the events of “It: Chapter Two”, from 2019, and should also show Pennywise’s past as the stories of the city of Derry at the time, perhaps exploring how the 27-year curse began.
Andy Muschietti, who directed the first two films, is attached as an executive producer on the project. The complete first season of the series has already been officially ordered by HBO.
There are no details yet on the launch or which actors will participate in the series, nor who will be the 60s version of the killer clown.
“It: The Thing”
The two ‘It’ reboot productions together grossed over $1.1 billion at the global box office, earning Skarsgard notoriety and rave reviews for his flawless performance.
The first film, “It: The Thing”, from 2017, showed that the legend of the clown, already known in the city of Derry, was real. “It: Chapter Two” (2019) takes place years later with the children in their adult form and having to deal with the obsession all over again. The story of Pennywise is based on the work of Stephen King.
Currently, the actor can be seen in the blockbuster “John Wick 4: Baba Yaga”. He’s also filming the second remake of 1922’s “Nosferatu.” The original gothic horror film is an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula and turns 100 in 2022.
