Florence Pugh clarified, in an interview with the ‘Off Menu’ podcast, that she never reached the emotional levels she needed to play Dani

Florence Pugh revealed to have “definitely” abused herself to get into character Midsommar: Evil Doesn’t Wait for the Night (2019) (viaVariety). The horror film directed by Ari Aster starred pugh as Dani, a grieving American psychology student who psychologically breaks down when she joins her toxic boyfriend on a trip to Sweden’s summer festival.

Every day, the content got weirder and harder to do. I was putting things in my head that were getting worse and darker. I think in the end I probably, definitely, abused myself to get that performance.”

After the filming of Midsommar: Evil Doesn’t Wait for the Night (2019), pugh immediately traveled to the set of lovely women(2020) from Greta Gerwig. “I remember looking [para fora do avião] and feel immense guilt because I felt like I left [Dani] in that field in that state [emocional]”.

This is so weird. I’ve never had that before… Obviously this is probably a psychological thing where I felt immense guilt for what I did, but I definitely felt like I left her out there in that field to be abused… almost like I created her. that person and then I left them there to go make another film.

Midsommar was one of the most sinister, provocative and aesthetically beautiful films of 2019. Ari Aster shatters several horror paradigms and received rave reviews, grossing just under $50 million at the worldwide box office.
