A new federal prosecutor will investigate the plan of the First Command of the Capital (PCC) to kidnap Senator Sérgio Moro (União-PR).
After calling for the federal investigation to be closed and proposing to transfer the case to the São Paulo prosecutor’s office, prosecutor José Soares was replaced by his colleague Adrian Pereira Ziemba.
Maintaining the investigations in the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Curitiba, the 2nd Criminal Coordination and Review Chamber of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) clarified that Soares could request, “by virtue of his functional independence, the designation of another member” of the MPF to conduct the survey.
His request was also denied by Deputy Judge Gabriela Hardt at the 9th Federal Criminal Court in Curitiba.
The investigation began in early February, after a former death row gang member exposed the plan. Next steps include obtaining statements from arrested suspects and examining cell phones, computers and documents seized in Operation Sequaz.
The prosecutor initially in charge of the investigation argued that the case should be referred to São Paulo because the plan was uncovered by the state prosecutor. He also said the crimes being investigated should be prosecuted in state courts.
For now, the understanding of the MPF and the Federal Justice of Paraná is that the transfer would be premature.
