The Live-Action version of the underrated Disney classic is taking shape.
Disney already has his Lilo for his next live action remake of ‘Lilo & Stitch’. According to information from Deadline, will be the newcomer Maia Kealoha who will play the young woman who befriends an alien experiment and teaches him the meaning of ohana (family). Of course, images of the young woman have not yet been shared, although her name cannot be more Hawaiian. But the casting has reminded many of ‘Moana’, in which Mickey Mouse’s house chose Auli’i Cravalho, also a newcomer from Hawaii, as the main star. The only other known cast member for now is Zach Galifianakis. It has not been revealed what his role will be, although rumors suggest that he will play Pleakley.
Dean Fleischer will direct the film, while Chris Kekaniokalani will pen the script for this remake/reboot of the 2002 classic. Chris Sanders, who co-directed the original film, explained last year that he was a little frustrated by all the praise Disney’s “Frozen” received for portraying the brotherhood in an animated film, when “Lilo & Stitch” had done so nearly a decade earlier. And the truth is that there are many who think that it is an undervalued Disney classic, and a film ahead of its time for the modernization of the company.
To be clear, I think ‘Frozen’ is great. But it was kind of frustrating for me because people were like, ‘Finally, a non-romantic relationship with these two girls,’ and I was like, ‘We did it! We’ve absolutely done that before.’
Disney has many live-action remakes and adaptations in the works, in various stages of production. There’s ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Snow White’, ‘Hercules’, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’, ‘The Sword in the Stone’, ‘Robin Hood’, ‘Bambi’ and ‘The Aristocats’. And then there are also sequels and/or spin-offs of the already released live-action versions of ‘Aladdin’, ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Cruella’ and ‘The Lion King’ (which is not actually live-action but realistic 3D, even if we put it in the bag).
