Tricolor complains about referee Wagner do Nascimento Magalhães in two offers. The first was a foul by Léo Pereira on Arias. The judge gave a yellow card, while Fluminense wanted a red card. The Colombian would advance towards the area. Then the scolding is for the expulsion of Samuel Xavier, who hit Ayrton Lucas’ ankle and directly received the red card.
After Samuel Xavier was sent off, manager Fernando Diniz complained about the refereeing and also got the red card. So according to Campeonato Carioca rules, he couldn’t hold a press conference. Assistant Eduardo Barros was asked to speak and showed revolt with the arbitration and confidence in a turnaround in the decision.
“The atmosphere was a mixture of indignation and revolt at the way the last part of the match was designed, especially after the move in which Léo Pereira should have been sent off and the sending off of Samuel Xavier, but also the feeling that we have to be calm, because it’s a reversible score, two goals behind, but this team has already shown the offensive power they have several times, so the final is open,” he said.
Fluminense now need to win by two goals to take the final to penalties or by three goals to be Rio de Janeiro champions in regular time. Before meeting Flamengo again, Tricolor has his debut in Libertadores ahead of him. Eduardo Barros stresses that Saturday’s defeat will not interfere in the international tournament.
“It weighs nothing in relation to the excitement for the debut in the Libertadores. It is a mature, expert team, also with a highly experienced coach,” said Eduardo Barros.
Fluminense visits Sporting Cristal, from Peru, this Wednesday, at 21:30 (Brasilia time), in Group D of the Libertadores.
