Promise, the French adaptation of This Is Us by Camille Lou and Hugo Becker returns for a third season on TF1 on Monday nights.
After two highly successful seasons that managed to delight the public and critics alike, this new burst of episodes continues to explore the history of the Gallo family. From laughs to tears, this season promises viewers a real emotional lift while continuing to explore the psychology of its characters.
Something will please and once again fascinate the faithful of the program.
New mystery, laughter and emotions
While I promise Season 2 will finally wrap up the tragic circumstances of Paul’s (Hugo Becker) death, we could fear that Season 3 will go down like a flop. But it would be a shame to meet the writers of the series, who once again knew how to go out of their way to maintain, even strengthen, our attachment to Gallo.
Always loyal to his big sister. This Is Us, I Promise Part 3 takes Maude (Marilou Berry), Matisse (Narcsis Mame) and Michael (Guillaume Labe) on another adventure based on intrigue as painful as it is fascinating.
On their fiftieth birthday, the trio will face a decisive turning point in their lives. From a fashionista who wants to start a family. However, her desire for a child could have serious consequences for her health and that of Tanguy (Mark Riso), especially since the Gallo girl finally sees her career as a singer.
Through Maud and Tanguy, the screenwriters approach important issues such as the difficulty of conceiving a child or depression with precision and kindness. If Marilu Berry and Mark Rizzo excel in comedy, perhaps they will show us the most in drama this year.
In turn, Michael grows closer to Estelle (Sarah Martins), Agnes’s cousin, whom he met at Modi and Tanguy’s wedding. Now more sober and calm, the latter could master his emerging feelings to establish a solid relationship with him.
But Mikael, who certainly has the least idealized image of Paul, first begins an investigation rich in twists and turns to uncover his father’s mysterious past. And when the secrets are revealed, the entire Gallo clan will come out haunted by it again. As the always excellent Michael, Guillaume Labbe gives his usual solid and emotional performance, which makes his character even more endearing.
Mathis embarks on a new professional project that will not cause some turmoil in his relationship with Agnes (LĂ©onie Simaga). It’s the perfect excuse to cut into the love story of these two characters while ruining their ideal couple image. However, this season will primarily be an opportunity to see Leon Simaga at the front of the stage, as the episode will focus on Agnes’ past. Despite the crisis their on-screen couple is going through, Narcisse Mami and Leonie Simaga’s chemistry remains intact in each of their scenes.
As for Paul, rest assured! Although he died 23 years earlier, the latter does not miss a call. While the tragic circumstances of his death are finally revealed, fans of the series are left with another mystery. Indeed, at the end of Season 2, Paul received a letter signed “PP” suggesting that he was cheating on Florence (Camille Lou).
So suffice it to say that this season will gradually reveal the secrets of this man who clearly had a lot to hide. Hugo Becker, on the other hand, is excellent or even better than in previous seasons. Shockingly, the actor delivers performances that may bring a few tears to your eyes.
Like previous seasons, we promise to continue adding more depth to its characters. As the story progresses, the Gallo family becomes more and more like everyone else’s family, strengthening both our identification with and our attachment to the characters.
A short but successful season
This year, the pace is faster — 8 episodes versus 12 for seasons 1 and 2 — and we occasionally wished for some welcome slowdowns to further explore the intricacies of the series’ characters’ psychology.
Despite everything, this new season cuts to the chase and never neglects the important issues it deals with or the treatment of its characters. Finally, I promise you, you might be able to fix the defect of its big sister, It’s Us, whose third season was considered too slow.
Ultimately, the TF1 series succeeds in maintaining the essence of the program and precisely balancing drama and humor, an often fragile boundary in television.
If you promise to juggle between the past and the present, this season offers great news, as we will have the right to a voucher on time for the first time. The possibility of seeing Gallo in 2040 and distilled a little more mystery. As soon as Paul’s secrets are revealed, I promise you, you are already asking new questions that will offend the audience.
Now let’s hope season 4 doesn’t leave these questions unanswered.
