Another step to win the platform war.
HBO Max has just given its subscribers one (and many) reasons to continue on its platform at the turn of the year. The gift came in the form of teaser from all the series that the brand is going to take under its umbrella throughout the coming year, with the continuations of great classics and the incorporation of new members to a cast that is certainly outstanding. It is a clip of only two minutes, which offers few details of each of its proposals, but that will surely have fueled the hype in the trenches of the audiovisual. Let’s review.
We have, to begin with, the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel, ‘House of Dragon’who is going to star matt smith, whom we recently saw in ‘Last Night in Soho’. It adds to the new installments of iconic series like ‘Westworld’with a fourth season of which we still know practically nothing, and ‘Euphoria’, which promises to bring weekly doses of genius-Zendaya. Complete the triad of series with guaranteed success ‘The Peacemaker’ (‘Peacemaker’)which puts the focus on the hero “by John Cena“in the form of a serial spin-off of the new ‘The Suicide Squad’: will it live up to the James Gunn?
Titles like ‘Dark Materials’, the sequels to ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’, ‘The Righteous Gemstones’, ‘Raised by Wolves’ by Ridley Scott‘Legendary’, ‘Barry’, ‘Hacks’ and ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ by Robin Thede. Among the series that return, the second season of ‘The Flight Attendant’, which will give (many) headaches to Kaley Cuoco. We are looking forward to seeing you.
Among the platform’s new bets is the new adaptation of ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’, this time starring Theo James of ‘Divergent’ and Rose Leslie of ‘Game of Thrones’, and a new version of ‘Integrity’, titled ‘The White House Plumbers’, with Woody Harrelson, Justin Theroux, Domnhall Gleeson Y Lena Headey, also from ‘Game of thrones’. Everything stays in the family, but on HBO they play sticks of all genres. For example, ‘We Own This City’, a new thriller from David Simon about the scandal that erupted after the death of a young African-American man in police custody (in Baltimore, of course). They will star in the miniseries Jon Bernthalfrom ‘The Punisher’ and Wunmi Mosaku from ‘Loki’.
In the field of miniseries, sarah lancashire from ‘Happy Valley’ will play TV star chef Julia Child in the new series ‘Julia’ and Rosario Dawson of ‘The Mandalorian’ will star in ‘DMZ’, the adaptation of the comic Brian Wood Y Riccardo Burchielli produced by Ava DuVernay. For its part, elizabeth olsen from ‘WandaVision’ promises more smiles and tears in ‘Love & Death’, which will retell the story of a perfect housewife who in 1980 killed a colleague with an axe: why? Let’s see it on screen. More crimes for Colin Firthstar of ‘The Staircase’, a miniseries that takes up the path of the homonymous documentary by true crime by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade (you have it on Netflix), in a somewhat lurid case. yesteryear was Harrison Ford who was supposed to star in it, but finally the project has changed hands.

In case we lack reasons to subscribe, Taika Waititi Y Rhys Darby give us ‘Our Flag Means Death’, a comedy loosely inspired by the life of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a Barbadian landowner (18th century) who he abandoned all his riches to become a feared pirate. That he get it is something else.
