The writer has sued her ex-husband, Xico Santos, for assault. In March, they had an argument and she was kicked while she was holding one of her daughters.
Entrepreneur and writer Raquel Pacheco spoke to Marie Claire about the domestic violence her ex-husband, Xico Santos experienced, and stressed that her daughters, twins Elis and Maria, were the reason she reported the his former partner.
“I didn’t want any of this to happen. I would never have mentioned it if she hadn’t attacked me while Maria was on my lap,” she said.
On March 5, Raquel and Xico had a fight after the entrepreneur discovered that her ex-husband had been cheating on her through messages exchanged with other women. As she held Maria in her arms, Raquel was kicked and cursed by Xico Santos.
She called the police, but her former partner disappeared before the police arrived. On the same day, Raquel filed a complaint against her ex-husband. “We cannot leave our daughters with trauma. I grew up with several and want everything I experienced in my childhood to be the opposite for them. I’m here for them,” she said.
The request for a precautionary measure based on the Maria da Penha Law was recently accepted. “She has to stay 300 meters away from me, which I think is not enough, but that’s fine for now. But the internet keeps saying I’m an absentee mom, isn’t it!” she said.
On social media, Xico Santos claims that Raquel is using her daughters to beat him and has declared himself a “single father”, while Raquel is an “absent mother”. The businesswoman said he was great with her daughters and that he stayed with them when Raquel needed work. “But I’ve always been close to him and the twins. I’ve never been absent, as he says. This is an injustice,” he said.
After suffering a miscarriage and going into depression, Raquel started to improve after finding out she was pregnant, and even with the covid-19 pandemic, which resulted in the cancellation of contracts and events, Raquel was able to focus on her pregnancy. “Everything was fine inside me, my daughters were growing up healthy. But outside was chaos. I was able to focus on the pregnancy, convey everything I could to my daughters, talk to them. I donated everything my body could give, my energy. It was a big change,” she said.
Raquel also said that she received a lot of support on social networks, after revealing the attacks suffered by Xico Santos. “It’s a very complicated situation and some people don’t understand. I ended up playing the role society expected, in this case, of a father. While she watched cartoons with girls on TV. I would also love to spend that time with the kids, but then who would go to work?” she asked.
The businesswoman said she wants to start over and lives hand to mouth, knowing she did the right thing. “Once you’re a mother, you discover a strength you never knew you had,” Raquel points out.
