Ever since Chris Evans left the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019), comic book fans have been clamoring for his return as Steve Rogers. And at a fan convention in Chicago this weekend, Evans said that while a potential return to Captain America doesn’t feel right, Steve Rogers still has other stories to tell. “So never say never,” snapped the actor.
“It’s hard because, look, I love this role so deeply. It means a lot to me. I really think there are more Steve Rogers stories to tell, for sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very nervous about it. It’s something I love so much.” so much and I don’t want to spoil it. You guys understand? I was really part of something that was very special.
And he also added, “As much as I’m connected to this role and I love telling these stories and working with these people, it just doesn’t feel right right now.” But maybe that’s right, say, 2025.
“The more you do these movies, the more research you do before the movie, the more you realize you’ve become a fan,” Evans concluded of his time at Marvel.
“Avengers: Endgame” concluded with Steve Rogers handing Captain America’s shield to Sam Wilson/Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie. The Disney+ series “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” chronicled the saga of Falcon’s transformation into the new Captain America. And now “Captain America: New World Order” will show the character in the title role.
Evans played the hero for eight years, starting with ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ (2011) and ending with ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019). Also, prior to heading up the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), the actor played Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, in two ‘Fantastic Four’ films.
The confession that there are more stories than Steve Rogers to tell in the MCU lines up with the Reddit leak that Marvel will launch a series called “Nomad,” which would mark the return of Chris Evans in the role, and would also bring back Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow. The attraction would follow Captain America after his disappearance in “Avengers: Endgame” and would be a multiverse adventure, which would make Black Widow a variant of the original character.
In November 2021, Kevin Feige – the big boss of Marvel – commented that he was working on a “top secret project” with Johannson, but that it wouldn’t be a new Black Widow film. It could be this series.
While Evans’ return has yet to be confirmed, the star’s next film is Apple’s action comedy ‘Ghosted’, starring Ana de Armas, with whom the actor starred in the blockbuster ‘Between Knives and Secrets’ (2019). The film will be released on April 21 on Apple TV+.
