The police conclude the investigation into the murder of the pregnant engineer
Rio de Janeiro’s civil police have indicted Diogo Viola de Nadai, 37, for the murder of engineer Letycia Peixoto Fonseca, 31, who is 8 months pregnant. Diogo was the child’s father, and was identified by the investigation as the perpetrator of the crime, according to the Civil Police.
In all, four people were indicted, Diogo being the one who ordered the killing; Dayson dos Santos Nascimento, suspected of shooting; Fabiano Conceição, cited as the driver of the motorcycle stolen on the day of the crime; and Gabriel Machado, who allegedly articulated the crime with Diogo.
Three of them will have to answer for triple qualified homicide, for vile reasons, without the possibility of defense, for compensation and feminicide with increased penalty, as the victim was pregnant. Gabriel is under house arrest for having three underage daughters with disabilities.
At the time of the crime, Gabriel set up a ‘virtual crowdfunding’ to raise funds for the treatment of his daughters, and Diogo allegedly promised to contribute in exchange for Gabriel killing a woman.
Gabriel said, in a statement, that he was sought out by Diogo during the week of Carnival, when everything was “in order”. On the day of the crime, Letycia received a phone call, which served to let the criminals know where she was and to warn her accomplices about her. The gun and motorcycle used in the crime have not been found by the police.
According to the investigation, Diogo would have planned the crime to live a double life, being married to Érika while maintaining a relationship with Letycia, who had been his student in the past.
He was arrested after displaying unusual behavior after Letycia was killed. He was calm and even jokingly texted her while she was hospitalized.
Letycia was shot and killed five times on March 2, outside her home in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro. She was eight months pregnant and underwent an emergency caesarean section. However, the baby died hours after delivery.
