The federal government creates a group to prevent violence in schools

The presidential decree (11,469), which provides for the creation of the group, was published this Thursday in the Official Gazette (6).

President

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva

created a working group to develop strategies and propose policies to prevent and address violence in schools.

The presidential decree (11.469), providing for the creation of the group, was published in Official Journal of the Union this Thursday (6).

The decree was published the day after the attack, committed by a man of around 25, in a day care center in Blumenau (SC), which caused the death of four children.

The attack was the second in the country in just over a week. Last March 27, the teacher Elizabeth Tenreiro, 71, died after being stabbed in the Thomazia Montoro state school, in the Vila Sônia neighborhood of São Paulo. A 13-year-old teenager responsible for the attack was arrested.

Faced with this situation, Lula announced the creation of an inter-ministerial working group.

The coordination and executive secretariat will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Education. The group will be attended by representatives (and their deputies) of the Ministries of Communications, Health, Culture, Sport, Human Rights and Citizenship, Justice and Public Safety, as well as the National Youth Secretariat of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic .

The meetings will take place, on an ordinary basis, monthly and, on an extraordinary basis, upon convocation by the coordinator. The meetings will be held in the Federal District, and can be face-to-face or via videoconference.

Furthermore, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flavio Dinoannounced the release of BRL 150 million to expand school patrols across the country amid the wave of attacks on schools and kindergartens.
