The San Paolo begins the marathon of games after the debut with the victory in Sudamericana

São Paulo will begin an intense marathon of matches after making their debut with victory in the Copa Sudamericana. The tricolor team had a day off this Friday and Saturday – due to Argentina’s late return – and will be back on the field next Tuesday, against Ituano, for the Copa do Brasil. From that moment Tricolor will have engagements every three or four days for a long time.

São Paulo will only have one week off to work again in the second half of May. Until then, the team commanded by Rogério Ceni will play ten matches, for three different competitions (Copa do Brasil, Copa Sudamericana and Campeonato Brasileiro), including a classic against Corinthians.

After Majestoso, in Itaquera, on May 14th, San Paolo will only return to the field on the 20th, against Vasco, in Morumbi. It will be a rare week off for Rogério Ceni to work with his team before returning to cater to Brazilian football’s crazy schedule.

Precisely because they have to divide themselves between several competitions and with a short break between one game and another, São Paulo will have to rotate their squad a lot, as they did last year, when they managed to go far in the Copa Sudamericana (final) and Copa do Brasil (semifinals). Only in the Brasileirão did the Tricolore not get a good result, having to settle for ninth place.

Aware of the difficulty of maintaining the same level with so many different matches and competitions, São Paulo signed 11 players for the 2023 season. Nine were available to Rogério Ceni in the Paulista Championship (Rafael, Wellington Rato, Marcos Paulo, Alan Franco, Pedrinho, David, Erison, Méndez and Caio Paulista). After elimination in the State, two more arrived in Morumbi (Raí Ramos and Michel Araújo).
