A few months after filming the final episode of New York Special, Kelly Giddy is set to return to the detective series created by Dick Wolf. In August of last year, the actress, who played investigator Amanda Rollins, announced her decision to leave procedurals after more than 11 years as her character.
In the final episode of Season 24 of NYPD, which is also the final episode of Organized Crime NY Season 3, Kelly Giddy will reprise her role. And that’s not all: according to the information TVLineAmanda Rollins will be pregnant.
In episode 9 of Season 24, her last as a regular, the character played by Kelly Giddy married Assistant District Attorney Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) in an impromptu ceremony at the courthouse.
After the ceremony, Amanda Rollins tackled a final investigation with Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) before announcing to her that she wanted to leave her job in Special Operations and become a professor at Fordham.
“Rollins had a happy ending, which is rareKelly Giddish told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “It’s a huge legacy. The audience does not remember him for the terrible way he was killed. They just remember that this character went through a lot of hardships but got a happy ending.“
At the time of his departure, the actor left the door open for a possible return of his character to the series. “He is still in New York“, he explained. “I loved working with the New York SVU teams and I know they feel the same way about me. So if my return is delayed, I think the public will be happy to see that.”
Keep in mind that NBC renewed New York Special this weekend, as well as New York Forensic Police and New York Organized Crime for additional seasons. Hosted by Mariska Hargitay, the series will begin its 25th season at the beginning of the next school year.
