Hitting theaters April 5th, Super Mario Bros. collects greenbacks like a mustachioed plumber collects gold coins in video games!
With a worldwide debut of $377 million, the feature film broke the Frozen record. A colossal success for this collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination, which shakes the big-eared giant: Disney.
At this rate, the movie should hit the billion dollar mark quickly… and with that, Nintendo should officially announce a sequel. With such success, it is impossible not to think of a second opus.
Spoiler alert, the following shows content from a post-credits scene from the film
At the end of the credits we see the egg hatch and a voice plays on the black screen: “Yoshi”! A small dinosaur serving as the famous mustachioed plumber’s mountain has thus been announced in a possible sequel!
However, if the beautiful green dino should logically be there, many other characters from the Mario universe can point their noses too!
After Bowser, another sworn enemy of the hero can come and play spoilsport: Wario! Jack Black, the voice of Bowser in the film, already has his own idea of the actor who should portray this iconic Nintendo bad guy.
“Not sure if Bowser is coming back. You know, I’ve done a few movies kungfu Panda, and the villain was different every time. Maybe they do the same. What if there was a villain stronger, more evil than Bowser?”asks Jack Black at Game Spot.
Wario
“In that case, maybe I can help Mario and the others protect our world from another unseen evil force. I’m thinking of Wario. And for me, Pedro Pascal is wario”Hammers the actor.
Plus, the Mario license is full of characters, and Illumination has nearly endless material for sequels. As a villain, we can also think of Waluigi, a kind of evil alter ego of Luigi, like Wario with Mario.

Waluigi
Harmonie, Luma’s adopted mother in Super Mario Galaxy, is also a fan favorite character. His presence in the second film is much appreciated.
Seeing as how the feature film’s Blue Luma was loved for its dark humor, we can only be excited to see her again, especially if she finds her mother, Harmony.

Harmony
Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong’s best friend, makes a small appearance in Super Mario Bros. The mischievous little monkey could be further developed in the sequel and team up with his friend like the good old days of the Donkey Kong Country titles.
We’re also thinking of Bowser Jr., a recurring enemy in the Super Mario games. The son of the plumber’s bitter adversary might want revenge for his father’s abuse in the first film.

Bowser Jr.
Other characters that are very popular with Big N fans can also say hello in the sequels: Toadette, Pauline, Birdo, Daisy, Professor Karl Tastroph from the Luigi’s Palace games… and why by the enemy Antimario, the double-blue and dumb-bearded plumber seen in Super Mario Sunshine- in?

Antimario
The possibilities are crazy and the Nintendo/Illumination collaboration has a bright future ahead of it! And which characters would you like to see in the sequel? I’ll let you consider that.
