It’s been a few days now that it’s official: HBO is indeed planning to reboot the famous magical Harry Potter franchise, not in the form of a cinematic saga, but in the form of a TV series. The latter will adapt the book to each season. It is a pharaonic and ambitious project, because we already know that if success comes, it will last at least 7 years.
Not much else is known except that there will be a new cast and author JK Rowling will be producing. A post that makes sense and that he has already held in the past in the film franchise. But since then, the 57-year-old Briton has drawn the ire of the LGBTQ+ community with comments about trans women and men.
He was asked about his participation in the series, despite the controversy during the session Q&A with the pressCasey Bloys – direct from HBO Content – began:
“I don’t think this is the place to talk about it. This is a conversation that takes place online. This is a nuanced, complex topic, not a debate we will get into. Our priority is what we are going to show on the screen. The Harry Potter story is something positive that talks about love and self-acceptance. This is our priority. What we see on the screen“.
If Casey Bloys answers the question, it’s still a real thread. A lot of actors gave up on J.K. Rowling after her controversial remarks – starting with Daniel Radcliffe himself. It remains to be seen whether certain talent will agree to work on this new Harry Potter series given the author’s involvement in the project, or whether the first season will be boycotted when it launches. Answer in coming months/years.
