He was Little Marcus for Boy, a comedy with Hugh Grant in 2002 that launched him: Nicholas Hoult then went on to star in the TV series Skins, before returning to cinema with films such as A Single Man and The Clash of the Titans. Still shining as Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road and Beast in the X-Men film series.
Recently we saw him in the TV series The Great or in the movie Le Menu. He will also star in the upcoming horror comedy Renfield, this time alongside another Nicolas Cage.
Hence, everything seems to be going well for the young actor and yet his career has recently faced substantial rejection. As reported by Screenrant , Nicholas Hoult revealed in an interview with Variety that he missed out on starring roles in The Batman , Top Gun: Maverick , and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 , all back-to-back.
I did a screen test for Batman and I couldn’t understand part of it. Screen test for Top Gun, part I didn’t understand. Then I got a call from Tom Cruise: “Hey, how about Mission Impossible? Well, I got the part. Then I had to drop out because I was already committed to doing some more of The Great.
Indeed, he was originally slated to play the main villain in the upcoming Mission: Impossible series, but was forced to drop out of the series due to a conflict with The Great.
Favorites to play Batman
Nicholas Hoult’s announcement confirms rumors that he was the frontrunner to play Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ Batman. Apparently, that’s how it played out between her and Robert Pattinson. With the DCU looking for a new Batman, there may still be hope for him…
As for Top Gun: Maverick, the actor has not confirmed which role he auditioned for. However, given his age, he was most likely considered for the role of one of Top Gun’s younger graduates: Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw or Jake “Hangman” Seresin, roles that were eventually won by Miles Teller and Glenn Powell. However, even though he was not cast, Tom Cruise personally contacted Nicholas Hoult to offer him a role in Mission: Impossible 7. Unfortunately, his devotion to Didi led to him being replaced by Esai Morales.
The 33-year-old comedian has since bounced back with starring roles in The Menu and Renfield, roles that make full use of his strengths in playing quirky and eccentric characters. He would also be featured in the following Nosferatu, The Order, Juror #2, and Garfield.
While The Menu is available on VOD, Renfield will be available in theaters from May 31.
