Gabimaru, a famous and powerful shinobi is captured and dies in prison. Claiming to no longer have reason to live, he desperately awaits the executioner to finish him off, his superhuman training allowing him to withstand the worst of punishments.
That’s when he meets a performer like no other: a powerful swordsman and beheader. After a fierce battle from which he barely survives, she pushes him to the limit.
In exchange for saving his life, she offers him a deal: he will have to go to a mysterious island to recover the Elixir of Immortality. The only problem: the only human survivors from this island have returned… in the form of flowers.

According to Manon Marouf
We are dealing with an effective adaptation for a particularly dark and mature manga. The first two episodes, while very introductory in nature, reveal a series of very intriguing anti-heroes, all of whom travel to the Isle of a Thousand Perils in a race for eternal life.
MAPPA’s simple and smooth style lends itself perfectly to this gruesome tale that doesn’t skimp on blood and gore. The staging and Japanese dubbing cast add undeniable quality to this series debut and promise great things to come.
My review of the first two episodes
- The absence of censorship on the horror scenes, which are an integral part of the story, is welcome.
- A smooth beginning that reveals the atypical personality of its protagonist.
- Opening and ending with the style of the original work and visually elevated.
According to Clement Cousseau
Hell’s Paradise is a fairly short manga adaptation (only 13 volumes, available from publisher Crunchyroll). Darker than usual shonen, this series impressed with the quality of its battles, but also with the richness of its characters’ personalities.
The manga ended in January 2021, allowing the anime series to see the light of day. The first two episodes broadcast by Crunchyroll give us a glimpse of a faithful and uncompromising adaptation, and for my part, I hope that the series can sublimate the quality of the drawings of the original work.
My review of the first two episodes
- Nice work from the teams at MAPPA, the animation studio notably responsible for JuJutsu Kaisen and the last season of Attack on Titan.
- The series takes time to introduce its characters without affecting the pacing.
- The first episodes that give us hope for an epic showdown!
