In 2003, Marvel Studios announced the production of its first film based on the character of Iron Man, which was to be the starting point of a large-scale project: the famous Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Dedicated director Jon Favreau is keen for Robert Downey Jr. to portray the title role. But Marvel doesn’t really believe anyone who’s at the bottom of the wave at the time. The actor persistently manages to pass the tests, which turned out to be decisive. Released in 2008, Iron Man marks Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the box office, grossing $585 million worldwide (on a $140 million budget).
Two years later, Iron Man 2 hits the big screen. The screenplay, written by Justin Theroux, depicts the new challenges of the superhero, whose dual identity is now known to everyone. This time with a budget of $200 million, Jon Favreau, still at the helm, sees even bigger: more villains, more female characters, more intrigue and even more locations (from the US to Moscow, via Monaco).
rhythmic and spectacular, iron man 2 Retains its irresistibly charming protagonist and offensive humor that so delighted early fans. The charm continues to run after the film beat its predecessor’s record with $623 million in international grosses, including $312 million on American soil and $2.5 million in France.
