Do you have Stallone’s ‘Rocky’ VHS at home? Could be worth more than $50,000

Sealed VHS of Sylvester Stallone’s original ‘Rocky’ trilogy sold at recent auction for $53,750

Do you still have VHS tapes at home? Do you still resist ending up in a dumpster or Wallapop? Well, be careful, because you could have a treasure on your hands. Three VHS of Sylvester Stallone’s original ‘Rocky’ trilogy have just sold at auction in the US for $53,750.

They are not just any three tapes, of course. To begin with, they are sealed, something that multiplies the value of any collector’s item. But it is also that they are very specific editions, almost impossible to find. Jay Carlsonavid VHS collector and contributor to Heritage Auctions in Dallas, reported the finding on his Instagram account “Rare and sealed”:

“Two days after our last auction, where we sold the only known 1982 cardboard box editions of ‘Rocky’, ‘Rocky II’ and ‘Rocky III’, these copies have appeared before, even, 1982. The main difference is the cutout you’ll see on the bottom left of the front of the cardboard that wraps the tape, where VHS is printed directly onto the box that slides out. These copies were discovered at a Goodwill Outlet a week ago and They were bought for forty-nine cents! Rare and early VHS tapes aren’t easy to find, but they’re still floating around waiting to be discovered at garage sales, thrift stores, antique malls…”

Unlike other media vintage like vinyl, VHS tapes suffer from pronounced degradation over time and playing this tape is surely a waste of time.. Its value lies in its historical significance as a collector’s item, as an original and limited rarity of one of the most influential films in cinema history. Although, I also tell you, you have to be lucky for the same auction house to sell two almost identical lots that appeared in the same week… I don’t want to be rude, but shrink-wrapping a box and selling it as “new” is something that They make quite a few establishments of all kinds in our country…

In any case, the more than $50,000 raised at the auction is (significantly) more than what he charged for his part in the film a Sylvester Stallone that he’s furious about the rights to ‘Rocky’, and news like this I don’t think will help.

If you don’t have the ‘Rocky’ VHS but you still have the other movies, pay attention: Last year, the same auction house sold a copy of ‘Back to the Future’ owned by Thomas Wilson (Biff Tannen) for $75,000. and another copy of ‘The Goonies’ for $50,000.
