Unlike their previous collaborations, Life for Real focuses on the trio the two actors form with Charlotte Gainsbourg. When asked while promoting the film, the director explained that he wanted to bring a new dynamic to their tandem and tried to write a true trio where each actor would have fun.

In the feature film, the French actress and singer portrays Roxanne, the sexually free-spirited conquest of Louis (Cad Meradi). The latter asks him to pretend to be Tridan’s childhood sweetheart in order to quickly get rid of this troublesome half-brother. But Roxanne will be disturbed by the kindness and naivety of this man…

Rarely in comedies, Charlotte Gainsbourg is completely at ease in this crazy role. He says in the press kit: “I was a little afraid that we would have to go into a purely comic register, which is not naturally mine…I’m never more comfortable than when we push the line a little bit, including in comedy.

The script had the beginnings of a female character with a very developed sexual appetite, and I found it fun to go there… As an actor, I know my acting is always a little “down” so you have to give me more, give me more! I told Danny to leave and I’m glad he listened.”
