While Claire (Katherine Marshall) is going through a major existential crisis in Here It All Begins, is the relationship she’s forming with Olivia in jeopardy? Is a new separation expected? Or on the contrary, Olivia (Virgin Cagliari) will be there to support the woman she loves and help her get up after this terrible burn, which is very disturbing to her loved ones at the institute.
A few days ago at the CANNESERIES festival, actress Virginie Cagliari, who has been playing Olivia Listrac for two years and is also well known to fans of Research Unit, confided in our microphone about the evolution of her character. A powerful plot and the future of the Claire-Olivia couple here it all starts on TF1.
AlloCiné: How do you evaluate the two years spent here where it all begins?
Virgin Cagliari : I make a more positive conclusion. I’m still having as much fun as the first day. A little more, because we are starting to get used to it, mastering the character. Olivia has more intrigue than before, she’s a super sunny, hyper dynamic, pretty funny character. So I really enjoy playing it.
And she’s also a modern character that fits the times, allowing the series to talk about veganism in a very educational way. Is this a source of pride for you?
It is correct. Olivia’s character has a very modern side to her in that way and the way she conveys her teachings to the students in a very humorous and very kind way. When it is necessary to revise the students, he does so, but there is always a great sincerity on his part.
And the vegan side is increasingly present in our society. Especially among young people who are between 15 and 25 years old, they finally like the characters of the series and like many viewers who watch us. It really matters to them, the planet and the animals. And I’m obviously proud of all of that. How can it not be?
How do you relate to cooking? Was that your job before playing in the series?
I love it. Cooking is my second passion. I can lock myself in my house for a day and read cookbooks instead of novels. I feel like I’m feeding off the pictures and things I read (laughs). I love to cook, it’s also very family because everyone in my family cooks. My grandmother, my father, my sister, we are not bad. So people like to come and eat with us (laughs).
Right now, Claire is going through a major existential crisis. He disappeared, no one heard anything. How will Olivia react when she discovers that she’s on fire and that she’s really questioning everything?
This is what intrigues him because he doesn’t realize what Claire is going through. He doesn’t understand Claire’s rejection of him. He tries to help her talk, but it doesn’t work.
It will be a surprise for Olivia, obviously not a good one. But she’ll be there, and so will Louis, to support Claire and get her back on her feet. It is very important. And this is where we see a very strong relationship between these two women. In addition to love, they have complete mutual respect and respect on a professional level, which means that they will definitely help and support each other.
How do you see this love story? We sometimes get the impression that Olivia is more invested and perhaps more in love than Claire…
I don’t know, I think if we have this way of seeing things, it’s probably because the characters are interpreted differently and the characters are written differently.
Claire is still much less expansive, in her life with her son, in her relationship with students. It’s tougher. And Olivia’s character is sunnier, more enthusiastic. So we get the impression that she’s the one leading the couple when that’s not true. He seems to be more in love, but I don’t think that’s the case.
Moreover, from the beginning, Claire falls in love with Olivia, not the other way around. It’s really all about the way you are as a character, quite simply.

Is their couple in danger?
Don’t worry (laughs). We weren’t meant to break up so quickly (laughs)! This breakup was pretty catastrophic, we got a lot of messages, people threatening production (laughs). So, no, I think the writers understood that they had to keep these two women together, and that’s a good thing.
I enjoy filming with Ekaterine, we get along amazingly, you can see it on the screen, you can feel it. It’s great, I don’t want this couple to break up.
Especially since they are an important couple from a representative point of view…
completely. Women of that age who are in couples are not so much on the screen, we don’t talk about them much.
When it’s young people, whether it’s two women or two men, it’s not a problem, it goes very well, it matches the times. Many young people are exploring their sexuality, whether homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual. And at the age of 50, it’s not at all, we don’t talk about it, it’s still considered a bit taboo. Although it’s a little more socially acceptable today, of course.
But it’s good to point it out “It exists in people in their forties or fifties just as much as it does in young people.”. It’s all just love, so let’s enjoy it.
How about what’s in store for Olivia in the coming weeks?
I don’t have a lot of visibility into what’s going on, especially since we’re coming off of a major arc on Claire and Olivia, so it’s normal for my character to be a little underrepresented next. But I do know that Olivia will obviously be involved in exams and new student screenings later, as the year is coming to an end soon and the start of the school year isn’t too far away.
