Was Shrek a disappointment to the dragons and abandoned by his parents? Dark theory believes so

The love of the “Shrek” movies has led fans to imagine and believe everything from a horror short about Fiona’s truth to hundreds of theories to explain the origins of the characters, including the titular green oath.

Although there will soon be 5 films in the franchise, little is known about the past of the protagonist of “Shrek”, who is inspired by a real book with a very different story than the films.

That’s why one theory collects what is seen in movies and other media, such as comics and Broadway productions, to clarify who the ogre’s parents were and why they were never seen.

Theory: Shrek was a disappointment to the dragons and was abandoned by his parents

Shrek’s parents did not physically appear and in all the films, as well as in the play “Shrek The Musical”, it was only mentioned that the dragon left his home at the age of 7, following a centuries-old tradition of his people.

According to the rules explained to him by his parents, ogre children on their seventh birthday had to leave their homes and find a place to live, although he was warned that he would be alone for the rest of his life and no one would love him. he loved

Although in 2007’s “Shrek the Third”, the protagonist reveals that his parents were not very good to him, because his dad bathed him in barbecue sauce, put him to bed with an apple in his mouth and tried to eat it.

However, in “Shrek Forever After” the villain played by Mike Myers arrives in an alternate reality and meets other dragons, who tell Shrek that he is too young and does not follow the traditions his parents told him.

This has given rise to the theory circulating online that Shrek’s parents went out of their way to get rid of him because his small stature was an embarrassment and a disappointment to the dragons.

The theory (which was popularized on Reddit by user Extent-Timely in March 2022) states that the other dragons also teach Shrek the ability to blow air out of his ears like war horns.

Shrek and Fiona didn’t know they could do this either, so it can be inferred that it’s something passed down from generation to generation, but the protagonist’s parents never wanted him, so they didn’t teach him this ability.

Even at the end of the movie, Shrek finds all the players in their normal reality, they become friends and socialize. Which contradicts what his parents told him that all ogres are in isolation.

Also in the 2010 comics “Kizoic Presents: Shrek/Penguins of Madagascar” written by Russell Lissau Shrek Shrek’s parents make an appearance and are seen judging their son for being a gentle and good-natured character.

According to the theory, ogre lore says they are supposed to be scary and disgusting creatures, but because Shrek was not like the others as a child, his parents were embarrassed and lied to get rid of him.

Although they never physically appeared in the films, Shrek’s parents were scheduled in the first iteration of the film as Chris Farley’s brains, with Tom Bosley and Marion Ross serving as their voice actors.

Maybe for “Shrek 5” the grandparents of Shrek’s children will show up and explain why they lied to him and left him to live isolated and loveless in a swamp.
