Guillermo del Toro asked Bill Hunter to appear in ‘Barry’ series
The cameo of Guillermo del Toro, famous for his scary monsters in movies, was not a mere coincidence, but it was the same Mexican director who asked to play a role, being a big fan of the series.
On Twitter, since August 2018 on his Del Toro account, he has stated that the production is something extraordinary, with great storytelling, funny, touching and with bittersweet moments.
So, according to what the show’s lead actor and co-creator Bill Hader told IndiWire on April 24, 2023, the way Guillermo del Toro got his tape in ‘Barry’ was at the request of the Mexican.
Guillermo Del Toro responded excitedly and completely willing to comply with what was asked of him, even bringing his own cane to give his character more personality.
This is not the first time that del Toro has left the director’s chair to be in front of the screen, since in 2016 and 2012 he had a small role in the comedy ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’.
In addition to the fact that the Mexican multi-Oscar winner has lent his voice to many projects and in the video game ‘Death Stranding’ (2019) he provided his image and voice for the character Deadman.
