‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’, the worst of the trilogy according to Rotten Tomatoes but still a Marvel comeback

The third installment of “Guardians of the Galaxy” may not be, according to critics, the best of the three, but it is still a step up from recent Marvel after “Ant-Man 3.”

In our review of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ we defended that the farewell to James Gunn’s gang is the best of the three, a film with which to recover from the recent disenchantment of Marvel, and a way to begin to believe in Phase 5. It looks like James Gunn and his Guardians have managed to bring Marvel back to a level we haven’t seen since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ or, depending on who you ask, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. However, most agree that Phase 4 has been tough, and gone from bad to worse, and that Phase 5 began with one of the worst MCU movies, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania.’ When you start putting out titles that are hard to pronounce twice in a row, maybe it’s that you’re getting a little exhausted… But Gunn, who curiously takes leave to focus on directing DC, the competition, has done the last great favor to Marvel already its owner, Disney.

However, you have to think about whether the movie is that good or if it stands out after the recent low level of the MCU. After the release of the criticism of the film, users can now consult the average of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the website that has become a reference, especially in Hollywood, for the evaluation of a film. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ has debuted with 79% of critical appraisal, not bad if we compare it with ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania’, which stayed at a generous 47%. However, it is far from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1’, which earned its fame as one of the best MCU movies and reached 92% and even from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ that, without the surprise effect, stayed in 85%.

With ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Marvel recovers one of its most beloved franchises and also best valued by critics and the public, one that James Gunn has directed (and with not a few fights with Disney) giving it something that Marvel lacks, its own personality. It may not have impressed the critics as the best of the trilogy, although it seems to many like us. However, we can also take it as a rebound from the recent Marvel, a film with which to restore faith and drive away the voices of formula exhaustion that many attribute to the MCU. Also, obviously, we can believe that it is a swan song of a Marvel stage that is already coming to an end, after all Gunn says goodbye to go to the competition.

Be that as it may, the entire Marvel universe can be reviewed, evaluated and seen on Disney +, so it is not a bad time to see the first two installments of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and prepare to go to the cinema to see ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ in theaters from May 4.
