Refreshing news for children at the Ipiranga Museum
Recently, children visiting the museum will be able to refresh themselves in the new French garden fountains, suitable for recreational use. AND free and to play just arrive, you don’t need a ticket.
They are installed in the same place where there were twotubas (large water tanks), destroyed to make way for a grandstand that was in operation on the occasion of the celebration of the Centenary of Independence, in 1972, and never rebuilt.
This refreshing play space shows how easy it is to welcome children into the city, when you have goodwill and initiative. Urban planning and many cultural attractions in general do not take into account the needs of young citizens – and it is worth remembering that, despite their young age, children have the same right to experience the city as adults.
SP Kids, as a platform to promote play in childhood, congratulates and appreciates each of these small initiatives that make cities more playful and welcoming for families with children.
The fountains are open from 10:00 to 20:00 and the water is treated with copper and silver ions, suitable for recreational use.
An important tip: if you want to visit the Museum afterwards, take a towel and dry clothes, as it is not allowed to enter the building wet.

Memories of independence
On January 25, the Museu do Ipiranga opens the temporary exhibition Memories of Independence. The exhibition discusses the prominence of the cry of Ipiranga as an absolute reference point of Independence and recalls some episodes, in various parts of the national territory, which contributed to the definitive break between Brazil and Portugal.
The exhibition is divided into two thematic axes. The main one reviews Independence commemorative milestones, from those produced in the 1820s to its bicentenary celebrated last year.
To this end, it uses sculptures, paintings, photographs, architectural and pictorial studies, decorative objects, stamps, drawings, postcards, records, film posters AND cartoons to illustrate the imagery of this event in Brazil, highlighting the disputes between São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador for the role of these narratives.
In the second thematic axis, the exhibition addresses the memories linked to “other independences”, movements of separation that took place in the territory of the empire, such as the Pernambuco Revolution of 1817, and the Farroupilha Revolution, which lasted from 1835 to 1845 ( in Rio Grande do Sul).
Memories of Independence is on display until 26 March.
