Netflix has released the first images of the new SpongeBob movie. Officially announcing the new movie with a promotional image, which they shared on Twitter, Netflix gave fans their first look at the film titled ‘Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie’. Pending its official translation into Spanish, it would be something like ‘Saving Bikini Bottom: The Arenita Cheeks Movie’.
In the image, Sandy the squirrel and SpongeBob appear to be surfing clam shells out of the sea as they soar into the air. Along with the image, Netflix wrote alongside the post: “BIG NEWS: Sandy Cheeks is heading home to the most beautiful place on earth in her own movie! Saving Bikini Bottom: Sandy Cheeks’ Movie Coming to Netflix in 2024!!!”
In a subsequent tweet, Netflix revealed more about the plot, in which the Texas squirrel will reportedly return to his home state to save the residents of Bikini Bottom.
What is the movie about? When Bikini Bottom and all of its residents are suddenly pulled from the ocean, Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob travel to Texas to save the city from the villain’s plot,” the tweet read.
The streaming platform also shared the news via Instagram writing next to the same image: “It’s time for Sandy to shine.”
“A new animated film coming to Netflix in 2024 starring Sandy Cheeks on a journey to save Bikini Bottom after its inhabitants are suddenly pulled from the ocean,” the caption continues.
Around the same time, the streaming service was announcing the return of a very different product, the long-awaited sixth season of ‘Black Mirror’, which is officially coming home.
Sharing a trailer for its sixth season, Netflix announced that the next installment of Charlie Brooker’s anthology series is coming to the service this June. The new trailer gave fans a look at the cast for this new season: Aaron Paul, Ben Barnes, Michael Cera, Salma Hayek, Paapa Essiedu, Kate Mara, Rory Culkin, and Annie Murphy.
