The protagonists of ‘Jurassic Park’ remember their relationship in the film despite the 20-year age difference between the two
There’s nothing left for him world premiere on June 9 of ‘Jurassic World: Dominion‘, and its protagonists are already on a promotional tour leaving us with the most juicy anecdotes and headlines.
It’s been nearly 30 years since the franchise debuted with ‘Jurassic Park,’ and Laura Dern and Sam Neil remember the romance lived by their main characters, the Dr Ellie Sattler and Dr Alan Grantin a somewhat different way to how they lived it in their day.
“I’m 20 years older than Laura!” Neill exclaims, adding “although at the time it seemed like a completely appropriate age difference for a lead actor and the actress who played his love interest.”
“It never occurred to me until I opened a magazine and there was an article called ‘Old men and young ladies’. People like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery performing with much younger people,” Neill continued. “And there I was, on the list. I thought, ‘Come on man. It can not be true‘”.
Dern was 23 years old when he started shooting ‘Jurassic Park’, but he also thought at the time that the age difference was not important. “YesIt felt completely normal to fall in love with Sam Neill. It was only recently, when we’ve become culturally aware of patriarchy, that I realized it and said ‘Wow! Aren’t we the same age?‘”
Although in the original novel of Michael Crichton The relationship was never mentioned. steven spielberg expanded the role of the character of Dr. Sattler and hinted at her love affair with Alan Grant, albeit in a rather respectful way and, even by today’s standards, egalitarian and feminist.
