Director Taika Waititi (“Thor: Love and Thunder”) is in talks to direct an adaptation of “Klara and the Sun,” a book by Nobel-winning writer Kazuo Ishiguro. The production is still in development, with a script written by Dahvi Waller (“Mrs. America”, “Mad Men”).

“Klara and the Sun” follows the story of Klara, a robot girl created to keep teenagers from feeling lonely. The machine undertakes to help a family of humans who are going through a troubled period.

Kazuo Ishiguro has already had other works adapted for cinema, such as the drama “The Spoils of the Day” (1989), with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, and the sci-fi “Don’t Leave Me Never” (2010), with Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield. For the adaptation of “Klara and the Sun,” he will also serve as an executive producer.

Waititi’s most recent film is ‘Next Goal Wins’, a comedy about the world of football which is released on November 17, 2023. The film is based on the 2014 British documentary of the same name, which follows the American Samoa national football team as they try to reach the World Cup.
