Three-story house collapses in Rio de Janeiro; one person died


The collapse occurred on the night of Monday 1 in Morro da Cotia




A three-story house collapsed on Monday night, the 1st, in Morro da Cotia, in the Engenho Novo neighborhood, north of Rio de Janeiro. A man was found dead under the rubble.

According to the Rio de Janeiro State Military Fire Brigade (CBMERJ), four people were rescued alive, a man, two women and a child, and taken to hospital. There are also reports that a child was rescued by neighbors. The causes of the accident have not yet been disclosed.

According to the newspaper The globe, the deceased man was a friend of the family and was visiting the owners of the house when the collapse occurred. The body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute.

Videos posted on social media show the rescue operation and the moment a child is pulled from the rubble. Residents applauded and thanked the firefighters.

More than 60 soldiers participated in the operation. Firefighters from 10 fire stations responded to rescues, including specialists from the Search and Rescue Group (GBS), with support from the company’s kennel search and rescue dogs (2nd GSFMA) and drones (COVANT ).
