A third film in the series has been announced by documentarian Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and we’ll call him episode X. The film will follow the character Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) as she builds a new Jedi order.
That film is the closest thing to a Skywalker saga sequel announced so far.
Taika Waititi and Star Wars
In May 2020, it was announced that director Taika Waititi would direct a Star Wars film. He will also co-write the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. In March 2023, it was revealed that Waititi is still working on the script and that he may appear in the film.
Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie
Although Disney has not announced the new film Star Wars by Shawn Levy, the director talked about his project in this universe.
In December 2022, Levy told Syfy that “we’re still early in development, but my goal is to make a Star Wars movie that’s like many of my movies, i.e. visual spectacle and a healthy dose of wish fulfillment, light-heartedness and a big heart.
However, he is very busy as he is also working on the fifth season of Stranger things. In short: don’t expect anything soon.
Has Rogue Squadron been cancelled?
In celebration of Disney Investor Day 2020, the Star Wars for the next few years has been revealed, with many titles announced. Some of them, like Star Wars: Visions AND Andor, came true. others, like Star Wars: Ahsoka AND The AcolyteI’m on the horizon.

This was great news due to Lindelof’s recent history, including his great success in sentinels of HBO and its series Leftovers.
Unfortunately, this isn’t happening. Lindelof told Esquire that “I was more than in conversations to get into the Star Wars universe … I got into the Star Wars universe and was asked to leave.”
