Google’s email platform will deliver the verified icon to businesses; service is one of many to adopt the system
Google has announced that it will begin rolling out the blue verification badge to Gmail. It will appear for companies and brands that use the BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) protocol, a feature that requires a complex authentication system. This way, people who receive messages marked as sender can be sure that the email is authentic.
According to Google’s Wednesday blog post, this type of authentication “helps email users and security systems identify and block spam, and allows senders to leverage trust in your brand. This increases trust in sources of email and provides readers with an engaging experience, creating a better email ecosystem for all”.
The blue seal will begin appearing later this week for all companies that activate BIMI on the Google Workspace platform. For brands that have already adopted the protocol, the check mark will automatically appear.
In addition to the eye-catching icon, a message can be read by hovering the cursor over it. Emphasize that the sender has a domain and logo used in their profile picture, which ensures that the company’s account is verified by Google.

What other platforms use verification badges?
Gmail may be one of the last services to embrace the famous blue symbol, but it’s not the first and it won’t be the last.
One of the most famous (or infamous, if you will) is the birdie social network. Twitter launched Twitter Blue in Brazil in February, asking to offer the icon to those interested in being featured on the timeline. For those who use Tinder, it’s worth knowing that the app also has the ability to verify the account, just like TikTok.
LinkedIn members earn a badge to prove their workplace, which can be used from a company email or via Microsoft Login. Meta platforms, like Facebook and Instagram, also have ways to authenticate people’s profiles.
Additionally, Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will begin offering a system called “Meta Verified,” which is very similar to Twitter Blue. The prices will vary between US$11.99 (about R$61) in the web version and US$14.99 (close to R$78) in the version for Android and iOS.
