“It’s been a long time since Real Madrid won this competition (since the 2013-2014 season). For me, I just needed to complete this (gallery of titles at Real). Today (Saturday) was a very special day for me There were two goals and I’m very happy,” said the former Santos striker, in an interview while still on the lawn shortly before receiving his medal and seeing Frenchman Karim Benzema lift the trophy.
“Yes, I knew it (that I had won almost everything at Real Madrid). I knew there was only one left. That’s why I always said this was a title I really wanted to win. Now, at 22, I’ve won everything I can But I want so much more, I want to keep winning. This Cup has been very special, in very special surroundings since we left for the warm-up. Well, a special day for me,” he continued.
Unveiled by Santos, Rodrygo was transferred to Real Madrid in June 2018, but left the Santos club just a year later when he came of age. In these four seasons in Spain, the striker had already won the Spanish league (twice), the European Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup (twice). He now he has completed the grandstand with the Copa del Rey.
“Very happy. I asked God because it was a very difficult game, a very difficult pitch to play. But I managed to score the goals and I’m very happy,” he concluded.
