BRASÍLIA, 09 MAY – Rio de Janeiro has been chosen to host the G20 heads of state summit in November 2024.
The announcement was made by the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, on his Twitter profile. “It’s official! Rio de Janeiro will host the G20 heads of state summit next year.
The world’s 20 major economic powers will be brought together and 10 other nations will be invited, for a total of 30,” he said.
The Brazilian authorities have chosen Cidade Maravilhosa instead of the capital Brasilia to host the meeting of the 20 largest economies in the world, which will take place for the first time in Brazil.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to take advantage of the G20 events to strengthen the tourist importance of Rio de Janeiro and other cities.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will take over the command of the G20 on 10 December this year, succeeding India, the current leader of the group.
Over the next year, around 20 thematic meetings for G20 ministers will be held in other cities of the country.
In addition to the 20 largest economies on the planet, other countries will be invited and a strong presence of leaders from Latin America is expected. .
