Rita Lee died on Monday night at the age of 75. The singer was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2021 and has been undergoing treatment ever since.
The news was confirmed by her husband, Roberto de Carvalho, in a publication on the artist’s social networks.
We announce the death of Rita Lee, at her residence, in São Paulo, capital, late yesterday evening, surrounded by all the love of her family, as she always wished.
By Rita’s will, her body will be cremated. The ceremony will be private. In this moment of deep sadness, the family appreciates everyone’s affection and love.

The film of the same name from one of Rita Lee’s compositions tells the story of Marinalva, a voice actress who dreams of becoming a Hollywood star. In the feature film, the actress plays Mary Shadow, a character from an American comedy series.
Many Stars Around (1992)
In this short film, Rita Lee plays Raul Seixas, another icon of Brazilian music, during a concert that the singer went to in São Paulo in 1983. In this episode, the artist was mistaken for a cover of himself and ended up on the Police Station.
Durval Nightclubs (2002)
The film tells the story of Durval and his mother Carmita, who own a record store in Pinheiro, São Paulo. When Durval decides to hire an employee to help his mother, he chooses Celia, who arrives with baby Kiki.
