What in the drawings seems easy, turned out to be a really complex task in the Live-Action movie.
The remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’ will hit theaters on May 26. Now, after its world premiere held in Los Angeles, more and more information about the imminent premiere is arriving.
The first reactions to the film have praised the work of Halle Bailey giving life to Ariel, the mermaid protagonist of the Disney story. Speaking about the development of the film and about the entire path traveled to reach the present, the actress recalled, speaking with Entertainment Weeklysome of the scenes and the difficulties that had arisen during their filming.
One of the most iconic moments of the Disney animated classic is the moment when Ariel emerges from the water and blows her hair back, with the Sun in the background. What in the drawings seems easy, it turned out to be a really complex task in the Live-Action movie.
“That scene was so much fun to do. But definitely hard. My hair was very, very heavy,” commented the interpreter. “I have my dreadlocks, which are my favorite thing. I’ve been wearing them since I was 5 years old. But, when they get wet, they look like wool. So they weigh a lot more. Their weight almost doubles when they get wet.“
The mythical moment in the film occurs when Ariel loses her voice under Ursula’s spell. Desperately trying to reach the surface to catch air, the young woman propels herself into the sky and the beautiful image of her is generated.
However, apart from the weight of her own hair, there were more difficulties in replaying the scene. For her role, the actress had streaks of curly reddish hair added to her natural hair, adding to the pounds on her head.
“It was a lot of hair on my head,” Bailey commented. “As soon as I got in the water, it was very heavy. So, in that scene he was funny: they spent a whole day trying to get it right. In the end they got a take that they really liked.”
The film stars Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, and Jacob Tremblaywhich will give life to Ariel, Ursula, Triton, Prince Eric, Flounder, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab, in the same order.
One of the novelties integrated into the plot of the film is the relationship between Ursula, the wicked witch of the seabed, and King Triton. In this adaptation of the story, these two characters they will be brothers, Ursula being a relegated member of Ariel’s father’s family.
This creates a whole background for the acts of the antagonist, one of the most fearsome villains in Disney movies, without a doubt.
Soon the film will hit theaters and we will be able to discover all its news.
