While the 4th season of “Balthazar” continues on TF1 this evening, Tomer Sisley reminds us of the update that was in effect with the arrival of Constance Labe and Katerina Mourinho. But also what awaits his character, the future of the series and his projects.
AlloCiné: The fourth season of Balthazar marks a real renewal of the series. As an artistic collaborator, did you participate in discussions with the channel, the producer and Helen de Fugerol, which led to the decision to leave Helen Bach’s character? Do you think you had an impossible romance between Balthazar and Helen?
Tomer Sisli : Not much has been accomplished to the end of the story of Balthazar and Helen Bach. First of all, I felt the series had been updated and put in jeopardy. We were coming out of three seasons that worked very well. The third is more than the previous two.
I’m a fan of soap operas, I love it. And often, from experience as a viewer of a TV series that I love, I find that seasons 3, 4, or 5 are often the key seasons with which fatigue can easily occur. And I really did not want that to happen to Balthazar. First of all, I did not want to create stagnation and use the same formats that work, even if it was very easy to fall into it.
Therefore, new characters are arriving in the 4th season. And numerous revelations around Balthazar: Where did he grow up? Does he have brothers and sisters? Why does he imagine himself talking to the dead? All of these questions are answered in Season 4.
Was there any idea behind this logic that the season showing Balthazar and Helen in pairs would not be very exciting? And this Balthazar probably, after all, will never really have the right to love?
You are very defeated (laughs)! Lets see. I will not go into that. But of course, that is what we find in parts at the beginning of Season 4. He almost died on the spot and lost all his blood. The woman who was to eventually marry was gone. The woman he married is the one who killed the woman of his life 14 years ago. In addition, she is pregnant with him, which means she had a child with the devil. It is a really terrible situation for him!
Maya is in prison, but Leslie Medina does not leave the series as Maya continues to torment Balthazar from her cell. How does Balthazar position himself in relation to this unborn child?
He is in complete denial. He has run away (laughs). He tries to avoid this problem and the responsibility that comes with this problem. At least from the beginning.
Constance Labbé joined the series as Camille Costes. A wonderful friendship is quickly formed between your characters, there is a lot of humor in the scenes you share. What was it like meeting and collaborating with Constance?
It could not be simpler. We immediately found each other, as if we had spent our whole lives together. She is a talented girl and besides, she has a sense of rhythm, she loves humor and she is very comfortable when I do a little improvisation. He is really strong for this ping pong and is always ready when we make suggestions. Playing with Constance is fun.
Should we think that a short romance between them a few years ago could lead to romance in future episodes?
Anything is possible (laughs). But Camille Costes and Rafael Balthazar a priori found almost a family connection. Some kind of brother and sister. But could he fall in love with this sister? I do not know, let’s see (laughs).
Another novelty of the 4th season is the arrival of Katerina Mourinho in the role of doctor Olivia Vesinet, who was sent to the IML to evaluate Balthazar. What impact will this new character have on Balthazar and the TV series?
Olivia Vesinet represents an authority in the IML that Balthazar never knew because he has always been the almighty God in this fragmented world that is the IML. There, the ministry sends someone to watch it. And Olivia will eventually knock him to his knees because he gets too much freedom and does not respect all protocols at all. And that’s horrible for Balthazar because his IML is some sort of reason for his current life.
We loved shooting these sections with Katerina as the two characters take pleasure in hating and driving each other crazy. Anyway, everything related to comedy is always fun. We do a lot of improvisation, at the moment we find small valves that further bring to life already well-written scenarios.

Do you have a favorite episode from the fourth season?
I was very happy to shoot the last two episodes as we learn a lot about Balthazar’s childhood. And otherwise I was very happy with the shrink sequences. I really like them.
Are you starting to shoot the 5th season this month, which, therefore, will not necessarily be the last season of the series?
What I did not do in the “fifth and last season” (laughs). I was actually talking about the last season to date. Writing for the fifth season is not over yet, I do not know the end of this 5th season. The reality is that by the end of Season 3, the series could have stopped here, it was a real opportunity to end. . And that did not stop us from doing Season 4 and now attacking Season 5.
I do not know when the series will end, but everything has an end, it is unchanged. But no matter what happens, I hope we stop before we get tired. It is important to observe a certain level of demand. And when I have a feeling that we are starting to walk in circles, or when the suggestions I am being given no longer suit me, then there will definitely come a time for it to stop. But for now, we’re really “let ‘s try shooting Season 5, which is as good as Season 4”.

You have several projects with TF1, including a TV movie called Comme mon fils, right?
Yes, this will be the first time I have taken on the role of co-producer. I can not wait to shoot this single. It is based on the true story of a low-class striker in the late 80s who found himself free with a 6-year-old child who was not his. He was not abducted, but his mother abandoned him, so he did not see the child being left on the street.
So she ran away with the baby and spent three years together. And this child looked like a child. Very nice story. The TV movie will be directed by Frank Brett, a director I love who has a lot of talent and a lot of poetry.
You mentioned in our microphone a few years ago a serial project of TF1 called Par Amour and told the story of several teenagers who divorced after a commitment and twenty-five years later found themselves in perfect condition. . Is it still enabled?
Could not be more topical. It’s sold, we are evolving and progressing. It took some time as I am quite demanding but the channel has confirmed the synopsis of all the episodes and now we are at the stage of sequencing the first two episodes. He progresses and sees the light of day. And there is a chance that I will still be the lead actor in this series that I am writing about. This is what TF1 expects from me.
What about Largo Winch 3?
Filming for Largo Winch 3 may begin by the end of the year if all goes well. It has been quite a busy year for me as it has been for 4-5 years now but I am not going to complain about it, it is wonderful.
