Are the original series or their ‘remakes’ or ‘reboots’ better?

We analyze the productions and their new versions to try to answer this question and we will know if second parts were never good or yes.

Throughout our lives, we have been collecting fictions that marked us for their history or characters. That affection and the feeling of nostalgia that they produce made many platforms want to recover them in the form of ‘reboots’ or ‘remakes’. However, the shadow the original series is elongated and its successors have not always convinced as expected. At this point, we have asked ourselves whether the first productions or their ‘daughters’ are better, and to try to answer them, we are going to analyze some of those titles.

If you are of a certain age, surely you remember‘Sabrina, witch stuff.’ The mid-’90s series turned out to be a unique and fun comedy (arguably one of the best teen shows ever) about a young girl who learns she has powers when she turns 16. Her aunts will be her guides in this new mission. This story was so magical that Netflix brought it back in a more modern and very dark version with Kiernan Shipka. This ‘remake’ had some of the winks of the first, but its creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, knew how to capture that essence, completely renewing that universe and making it just as attractive or more.

Less successful was the ‘reboot’ of‘Charmed’ which launched HBO. Fans wanted to see the sisters in action again, but the new cast failed to cast the spell like the witches starring in Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty and Rose McGowan. On the same platform and with a similar entourage of fans, the reboot’ of ‘Gossip Girl’. This new version did not know how to capture the ‘cool’ spirit of its predecessor, nor did the signings have the charisma of the originals.

More divided opinions obtained the return of ‘Sex and the City’, titled ‘And Just Like That’. There was so much desire to see Carrie Bradshaw in action that, despite some criticism, the girls from Manhattan came out victorious (we even put it among the best and most watched series on HBO Max). Yet another part of her decided that she wasn’t worth it without her beloved Samantha of hers.

In a technical tie we have ‘House of cards’. Surely, your first thought when reading the title has been for the most recent adaptation (without a doubt, it is one of the best series on Netflix). Brilliant for his scripts and, of course, for the tandem Kevin Space (accusations aside) and the superlative Robin Wright, who at the controls was still able to raise the bar even more. But watch out for the miniseries that gave rise to this one and that also deserves our full attention thanks to Ian Richardson’s performance. Something similar happens to us ‘Twin Peaks’, but if we have to choose, the first one will always appear in our ‘favs’ list.

Who does not remember ‘Dynasty’? Another television classic suitable for the most nostalgic. Her successor was never able to surpass the original and more than two of her key figures: Linda Evans and Joan Collins. As the successor of ‘The prince of Bel Air’ No could overshadow Will Smith, nor the second generation of ‘Saved by the Bell’ hooked us as much as the adventures carried out by the mythical characters Zack Morris, Slater and Screech. An epic high school series. However, the opposite happens with ‘Fatmagül’, his Spanish ‘reboot’ ‘Alba’ It seems to us much more rounded than the famous Turkish series, with a well-run plot and a great Elena Rivera in the main role. This shows that other reinterpretations of stories are sometimes possible and effective.
