Manifoldless bus in Porto Alegre on weekends!

The decision to withdraw collectors from bus routes is controversial and has been interned for some time. Learn more:

An authorization has been published in the Official Gazette of Porto Alegre (Dopa) which allows three bus lines to circulate without collectors on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The provision has routes that carry fewer passengers per trip and affects lines 343 (Campus/Ipiranga), 353 (Ipiranga/PUC/Ufrgs) and T8 (Campus/Farrapos). The change will come into force on Saturday 13 May.

According to resolution 10/2023, public transport users can issue their TRI card free of charge, which provides agility when boarding. With the implementation of the measure, it is expected that buses will travel faster and more efficiently on days when there are fewer passengers, which could represent savings for transport companies.

The decision to withdraw collectors from bus routes is controversial and has been interned for some time. The unions representing the category argue that the measure could lead to layoffs and jeopardize the safety of passengers. Proponents of the change say public transport needs to be modernized and made more efficient.

For the moment, the authorization is valid only for the three lines mentioned, but there is the possibility that other routes without collectors will also circulate on days with lower demand. The change will be closely watched by authorities and public transport users, who hope it will bring benefits to all involved.
