Disney +: This double Oscar-winning actor’s series has been canceled after just one season!

What should have been his possible big comeback is cut short. Hilary Swank ABC has canceled her series Alaska Daily after just one season. The announcement comes as no surprise since the show failed to establish itself and find a large enough audience for a second season.

Created by Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, Stillwater), the series follows investigative journalist Eileen Fitzgerald (played by Hilary Swank), who leaves her high-profile New York life after a favor to join a daily newspaper in Anchorage. A goal of personal and professional redemption.

As a local newspaper reporter, Eileen investigates a case of missing indigenous women that is still dead-end, with very few leads and in desperate need of a fresh look. The dark corners she must explore reveal an underworld of the city that could prove dangerous for Eileen as she begins to uncover secrets that many would rather keep buried.

The role of Eileen was supposed to revive Hilary Swank’s career, which had been slipping for several years. She was also nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Role at the 80th Golden Globe Awards last January. The award given to Zendaya’s Euphoria.

Along with Hilary Swank, Alaska Daily also features Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holtzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Amy Park and Craig Frank.

The cancellation is explained by a weak audience. The drama, which aired in October 2022, attracted 3.59 million viewers for its first episode. But viewers just refused to watch the episodes. The season ended with episode 11, which garnered only 2.75 million subscribers.

On AlloCiné, Alaska Daily receives an average rating of 3.5 out of 5 for only 72 ratings.

It is one of three shows ABC canceled over the weekend, with Big Sky canceled after three seasons and The Company You Keep canceled after one season. The only drama series on the channel whose fate is still undecided is The Rookie: Feds. A spin-off of The Rookie may have the right to delay.

As for Hilary Swank, she is to be found on the big screen in Ordinary Angels, a film based on a true story that does not yet have a release date in France.
