Former deputy or parish priest? Know who can fill Deltan’s vacancy in the House

The vacant post can be a former federal deputy or a Bolsonarist pastor. The Regional Electoral Court of Paraná will appoint an alternate

BRASÍLIA – With the annulment by the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of the mandate of Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) in the Chamber, the one called to assume the role of replacement is former federal deputy Luiz Carlos Hauly, from the same party. He had 11,000 votes.

However, one wonders whether Hauly meets all the requirements to take the vacant House seat. According to experts, the former deputy would not have obtained the minimum number of votes necessary according to the criteria of the electoral legislation. If the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) understands that Hauly did not meet the minimum requirements, Pastor Itamar Paim (PL-PR) will take over Dallagnol’s vacant post. The graduate will be responsible for the TRE. Wanted, the court has not yet manifested itself.

Hauly served seven terms from 1991 to 2019. He is an economist and has been a leading advocate for tax reform. He was also finance secretary in Paraná, as well as councilor and mayor of Cambé, about 400 km from Curitiba, the state capital.

Paim received 47,000 votes. He is pastor of 59th Foursquare Gospel Church. His campaign was launched in the image of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with the nickname “in defense of life and family”.

On Tuesday 16, the TSE decided to cancel the mandate of Deltan Dallagnol and to declare him ineligible for eight years, on the basis of the Clean Record Law.

Dallagnol was the most voted deputy in Paraná, with 344,000 votes.

The impeachment was carried out on the basis of legislation that prohibits judges and prosecutors from standing as candidates if they have asked for resignation or voluntary retirement pending disciplinary proceedings. One of the actions was proposed by the Brazilian Federation of Hope, by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

In a note, the former lawyer states that “my feeling is one of indignation at the unprecedented revenge that is taking place in Brazil against law enforcement agents who have dared to fight corruption”.

“But no obstacle will stop me from continuing to fight for my purpose in life to serve God and the Brazilian people,” continued the impeached lawmaker.
