Emilia Romagna Grand Prix canceled after storms in Italy

The release does not mention the rescheduling of the race, only warning that the event will not be held this weekend due to flooding. In some areas of Imola there are floods.

Thunderstorms punishing Italy’s Emilia Romagna region caused the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the sixth race of the season, to be canceled. The event was supposed to take place this weekend, at the Imola racetrack, but was canceled due to flooding which occurred from the beginning of May and which made it impossible to run the race, according to the organisers.

The Formula 1 press release does not mention the rescheduling of the race, only warning that the event will not take place this weekend. On Tuesday (16), when there were already several workers assembling the garages, offices and transmission systems of the racetrack, the work had to be interrupted and everyone was removed from the racetrack with the determination of the Civil Protection of the Region. Faced with the red alert issued, the Italian authorities began to ask for the tender to be canceled or postponed.

The team organizing the event met with government officials, including the transport minister and the vice president Matthew Salvini, who approved the choir for canceling the test.

In the statement, F1 says it made the storm-facing decision because “it is not possible to hold the event safely for the fans, teams and our staff, and it is the right thing to do given the situation cities and towns are facing. It would not be right to put more pressure on local authorities and emergency services at this difficult time.”
