According to the producer, although the development team has created missions and stage bosses, the progress has not been as expected and would have been below Blizzard’s quality standards. Producer Jared Neuss explained that the studio has decided to focus on developing competitive multiplayer matches.
Even without the campaign mode, Overwatch 2 should still receive PvE content this year. This is what Neuss said on Twitter after the presentation:
One clarification I wanted to make is that, while we’ve made the decision to drop Hero Mode + Talents, we have a lot of great PvE content coming this year.
Big story missions, new cutscenes, co-op events, and single player Hero Mastery missions are on the way. https://t.co/8aGvlBqVR0
