The Federal Supreme Court (STF) has decided to postpone the judgment scheduled for this Wednesday on the points of the Civil Rights Framework for the Internet and has rescheduled the analysis of the trials on the subject for the second half of June, according to the press office of the court, in the midst of the controversy over the regulation of platforms involving both the Judiciary and the National Congress.
According to the advisory, the postponement of the actions by the president of the STF, Rosa Weber, was requested by the rapporteurs of the actions on the matter, the ministers Dias Toffoli and Luiz Fux. The new date for their appreciation, although scheduled for June, has not yet been defined.
The discussion on the regulation of the performance of so-called big techs has recently gained prominence in the wake of the crimes of violence in schools and the preparatory events and dissemination on social networks of the attempted coup of January 8th.
Two weeks ago, Mayor Arthur Lira (PP-AL) decided to postpone the vote on the opinion of deputy Orlando Silva (PCdoB-SP) on the so-called fake news law amid pressure especially from platforms, Bolsonarists and Evangelical benches. There is no date for the House to resume consideration of the case.
STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes has even opened an inquiry to investigate the actions of the leaders of Google Brasil and Telegram for taking action against the bill.
Lira is looking for a way to carry out the analysis of the proposal, which has a broader scope than the judgment that should take place in the Cassation.
The bench of the PL, the party of former president Jair Bolsonaro, is discussing presenting an alternative text to that of Orlando Silva, which has the support of Lira, the Lula government and also the leaders of the judiciary.
