‘Fast & Furious X’ dares to hook the fandom with an unexpected ending, a strategy that until now we had not seen in the franchise.
Fast & Furious, one of the most unexpectedly successful franchises of the last 20 years, is going to end at some point, but not this week. So The end of ‘Fast & Furious X’ has shown it by doing something that no movie in the Vin Diesel saga had done before: leave the story halfway.
Yes, the introduction of Jason Statham’s character in the epilogue of ‘Fast & Furious 6’ (Justin Lin, 2013) promised us the party that the unattainable ‘Fast & Furious 7’ (James Wan, 2015) became, but was not comparable to coitus interruptus of this tenth installment, a declaration of intent about its direct sequel ‘Fast X: Part 2‘, the announced end of the franchise announced for 2025 and which, according to more and more rumors, could precede a real closure in the form of ‘Fast X: Part 3’.
‘Fast & Furious X’: ending explained
As in its day happened with ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ (Irvin Kershner, 1980), Spectators of this new adventure by Toretto and his family will have to wait for a new film to be shot to find out what has become of its protagonists.
After defying all the laws that govern our universe, but not his own, Dom and his son survive the collision of two tanker trucks by driving their car off a dam. Dante, the hilarious operetta villain played by a jolly Jason Momoa, watches as the heroes emerge from their flooded vehicle alive.
“Enough of suffering, it’s time to die“, he sentences while activating some explosives that he had placed on the pillars of the dam, sentencing Dom and little Brian to certain death after the torrent of water that is coming their way.
We don’t get to see it, of course, the scene ends there to take us back to Antarctica, where Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Cipher (Charlize Theron) have managed to escape from the Agency’s impossible prison to reach an icy sea. Right there appears the beautiful submarine that was presented to us in ‘Fast & Furious 8’ (F. Gary Gray, 2017) and that, for some reason that ‘Fast X: Part 2’ will explain to us in a brief script line, is commanded by Gisele (Gal Gadot), whom we saw die in ‘Fast & Furious 6’ (Justin Lin, 2013) saving the life of the also deceased and resurrected Han (Sung Kang). Here who is still dead is because they want to.
‘Fast X: Part 2’, the answer we expect
It will be necessary to wait until 2025 for all this, and what was seen in the post-credits scene of ‘Fast & Furious X’, to have an end worthy of the heroes from Las Tunas.
At the moment we can only wait, but as we pointed out in our review of ‘Fast & Furious X’, we took the opportunity to dream big and bet on that tempting crossover between this universe and that of ‘Jurassic World’. We would all win.
