Film starring Woody Harrelson wins 75th Cannes Film Festival

On the evening of May 28 at the Palais des Festivals, the jury of the Cannes Film Festival, chaired by the actor Vincent Lindon this year, announced the winners. The jury also included Rebecca Hall, Deepika Padukone, Noomi Rapace, Jazmine Trinca, Asghar Farhadi, Laj Lee, Jeff Nichol and Joakim Trier. In the main competition of the festival this year, 18 paintings were presented, including the work of Kirill Serebrennikov “Tchaikovsky’s Wife”.

The winner of the “Palme d’Or” – the main award of the Cannes Film Festival – was the film “Triangle of Sorrow” by the Swedish director Ruben Östlund. it a drama starring Woody Harrelson about a couple of models who go on a luxury yacht trip. When the ship sinks, a guy and a girl find themselves on a desert island surrounded by billionaires and a cleaner. Of all the passengers, only the cleaner knows how to fish, which means how to survive in the circumstances.

The second most important award – the Grand Prix of the festival – was given to the paintings “Close” by Lucas Dont and “Stars at Noon” by Claire Denis.

The rest of the nominations were distributed as follows:

• Best Director – Park Chan-wook, “Decision to Quit”
• Best Actor – Song Kang-ho, “The Broker”
• Best Actress – Zara Amir Ebrahimi, Holy Spider
• Best Screenplay – Tariq Saleh, Boy from Heaven
• Camera of Gold (Best Debut) – Warpony, Gina Gammell, Riley Keough
• Special Prize – “Tori and Lokita”, Jean-Pierre Dardenne, Luc Dardenne.

• Best Film – The Worst, Liz Akoka, Roman Gere;
• Jury Prize – “Joyland”, Saim Sadiq;
• Best Director – Alexandru Belk, “Metronome”;
• Best Actress – Vicki Krieps, “Corsage”;
• Best Actor – Adam Bessa, “Harka”;
• Best Screenplay – “Mediterranean Fever”, Maha Hajj;
• Jury Prize – “Rodeo”, Lola Kivoron.

The 75th Cannes Film Festival took place from 17 to 28 May.
